My name is Vincent Burkhead
and my company is Vincent Burkhead Studio.
One of my product lines is Creative Canines. My goal is to
offer a unique perspective on pet portraits. The concept is
simple: to convey the pet’s personality as accurately as
possible by adding human attributes to the portrait. This
goes beyond a simple rendering of a photo. I gain insight
into the unique personality traits by way of a simple
questionnaire. I also offer custom printed greeting cards
and custom stationery of the final artwork, this gives
clients the opportunity to easily share the artwork with
family and friends. Although the focus so far has been dogs,
I’ll happily illustrate pets of all kinds. The obvious
element of humor resonates with people and creates an
emotional connection. My primary motivation is to create
one-of-a-kind pieces of art that my clients will cherish for
years to come.
Biography:
My interest in art has formed some of my earliest memories.
My family on my father’s side is clearly the source of my
interest in creativity. My grandfather hand-crafted
beautiful Ozark mountain dulcimers (musical instruments) out
of exotic woods and created geometric sculptures using small
nails and brightly colored string. His work and attention to
detail impressed and motivated me. I also inherited his love
of gardening and the natural world. I was encouraged by my
grandparents to pursue and explore visual self-expression;
it motivated me to take my creativity seriously, and has
helped shape me to become the expressive and creative person
I am today. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from
the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1988. I moved to
San Diego back in 1999. I am fortunate to have a studio
space that faces a gorgeous canyon view, which serves to
both motivate and inspire me.

the work of artist
Vincent Burkhead and all portraits are drawn digitally
using a
Wacom pen and tablet to literally ‘draw’ the
shapes in an industry standard vector based software
program (Adobe
Illustrator™). This vector approach is
resolution independent and is mathematically based,
thus translating into being able to print your
artwork a literally ANY size and not loose
